Perennials

Perennials are one of the most popular categories of plants today. Most perennials flower in spring or summer and grow each year from their roots. Perennials can last many years and are normally categorized as either shade or sun loving.

The perfect size for smaller gardens, this is a lovely midsized selection of Joe-Pye Weed. It forms a bushy upright mound of coarse dark-green leaves, bearing large umbrella-like heads of magenta-pink flowers in late summer. A magnet to butterflies, suitable for planting in moist to wet areas. The stature of this selection is ideal as a focal point in a large container or tub.

 

Gigantic domed clusters of small purple-pink flowers are held on tall, self-supporting red stems with lance-shaped, bright green leaves from July to September. This majestic perennial will give height and drama to a moist border, wildlife or bog garden in sun or partial shade. It needs space to spread and will self-seed freely.

This pure white Coneflower has large daisy-like flowers that are double and held more horizontally than White Swan. The very best white, Echinacea Virgin has central cones that open green and are well pronounced. The plants have a attractive upright habit and do not require staking.Drought tolerant once established.Patented.

‘Meringue’ is a dwarf, double white coneflower that grows in a clump to 15-20" tall on sturdy stems that do not need staking. Each flower features white rays that surround a creamy yellow pom-pom center. Flowers bloom from late spring to late summer, sometimes with additional sporadic bloom until frost. Good fresh cut or dried flower. The dead flower stems will remain erect well into the winter, and if flower heads are not removed, the blackened cones are often visited by goldfinches that feed on the seeds. U. S. 'Pink Double Delight' is a selection that is very close to another coneflower named 'Razzmatazz' but is shorter with a more compact growth habit. Two foot tall plants produce a  bounty of true bright pink flowers with pom-pom like centers. The 3 inch flowers are born on strong very well branched plants that stay in color all summer and into fall. Pink Double Delight is a very cheerful looking perennial and will brighten the day of any one who happens to pass by.

A remarkable hybrid Coneflower that comes close to producing flowers in near-red. The flowers are large, single and fragrant with petals a deep magenta-red surrounding a dark cone. As the flowers mature, they fade to an attractive smoky-rose. Plants are strong and bushy in habit with near-black stems. Ideal for sunny borders and growing in mixed containers. Attractive to butterflies and excellent for cutting.

White Swan Coneflower features beautiful lightly-scented white daisy flowers with brown eyes at the ends of the stems from mid summer to mid fall, which are most effective when planted in groupings. The flowers are excellent for cutting. Its pointy leaves remain green in colour throughout the season. The fruit is not ornamentally significant. Drought tolerant once established.

The hardy Ice Plants are native to South Africa but are amazingly hardy in North America, provided they are grown in the sun and in very well-drained soil. This extraordinary selection forms a low carpet or mat of succulent, apple-green leaves, bearing loads of starry flowers with petals that are bright apricot around the perimeter with a darker halo effect, vibrant pink at the base and a white eye.
