Purple Rain Astilbe - Astibl chinensis 'Purple Rain'
'Purple Rain' is a mid-sized Astilbe selection that has fluffy plumes in shades of lavender to magenta, over a mound of elegant, lacy green leaves. A healthy, vigorous performer. Great in the border, also thrives in tubs or mixed containers. Fertilize in April and June. Excellent for cutting. Seed heads may be removed, or left on the plant for winter interest. Will tolerate full sun, in cool summer regions. Developed in the Netherlands by breeder Hans van der Meer in 2000. USPP#21887.
Plant in cool, rich moist soil. Feed in spring with an all purpose fertilizer before new growth begins. Remove tired flower spikes throughout the season to promote new blooms. Divide every few years as needed in fall to maintain plant vigor.
