Variegated Kiwi Vine - Actinidia kolomikta
Kiwi kolomikta is a deciduous, climbing shrub, with slender, twining branches and heart-shaped green leaves are splashed with pink and white. Best colouring occurs in male plants and is usually not apparent until the plant is several years old. The small (to about 1 cm long), fragrant, pink or white, pendulous flowers appear from May to July, and are followed in the autumn by greenish-orange fruits up to 2 cm long on female plants. A male plant is needed for fruit setting on female plants.
Grow in average, medium moisture, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Best foliage color in light shade. Too much shade or excessive fertilization may diminish foliage color. Prune to control size. If growing at least in part for fruit production, plant one male for every three to four females. If growing only for ornamental foliage, consider planting only male plants.
