Friar Plum - Prunus salicina 'Friar'
Large oval fruits have glossy black skin and amber flesh. Sweet and juicy. Heavy producer. Freestone. Good for eating fresh or in jams and preserves. Ripens mid-season. Good storage life. Requires pollination from other Japanese Plums (Prunus salicina) varieties.
Prefers well drained soils. Water regularly as needed. Feed in spring with an all purpose fertilizer prior to new spring growth. Prune when young to create an open branching structure that allows for even light distribution and more consistent ripening of fruit.
