The dusky purple petals of 'Bela Lugosi' arise from lime-green throats whose color bleeds eerily into a greenish gold center. It seems to suit this Daylily's namesake, the Hungarian actor best known for his role as Count Dracula. Thanks to a vigorous habit, good bud count on well-branched stalks, and a dark flower color that lasts well in sun, this mid-season bloomer has garnered awards from the American Hemerocallis Society. The slightly ruffled flowers measure about 6in across. Semi-evergreen foliage.

Easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Daylilies perform well in a wide range of well-drained soils, but prefer a deep, fertile loam. Deadhead spent flowers daily for neatness and remove flower stems when flowers have completed bloom. Tolerant of summer heat and humidity, but appreciate deep watering in dry spells to keep foliage attractive. Daylilies should be divided to maintain vigor when the clumps become overcrowded. Drought tolerant once established.
